Huawei and CTU Sign MoU to Drive Digital Transformation in the Caribbean

In a significant development at the 21st Strategic ICT Ministerial Seminar of the Caribbean held in San Ignacio, Belize, Huawei (Trinidad and Tobago) Limited, a global leader in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 11, 2024.

The MoU, signed by Rodney Taylor, Secretary-General of the CTU, and Daniel Ding, Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications at Huawei Central America and the Caribbean, underscores the joint commitment of both parties to promote digital transformation in the region.

Aligned with CTU’s key strategies, the MoU aims to enhance digital transformation efforts among Member States. It involves sharing information and ideas on ICT policies and regulations, conducting joint research on network security, data protection, digital inclusion policies, and emerging technologies like 5G and green energy.

Taylor emphasized that this agreement signifies a significant step forward in CTU’s mission to drive digital transformation in the Caribbean, strengthening collaboration to address key ICT challenges in the region.

Furthermore, it symbolizes the shared commitment with Huawei to promote a digitally empowered Caribbean that benefits all citizens of the 20 CTU Member States.

This milestone event also marked Huawei’s official membership in the CTU’s private sector, following approval by the CTU’s Executive Council. Daniel Ding expressed Huawei’s satisfaction in collaborating with the CTU to accelerate ICT development in the region, reaffirming their dedication to building a better-connected and smarter world.

With a 20-year track record in the Caribbean and Latin America, Huawei has partnered with local operators and stakeholders to deliver innovative ICT solutions and services, benefiting over 50% of the region’s population.
